With Parallel Figures, Thomas Trum presents a new step in his Parallel Lines series. The works continue his investigation into a self-imposed constraint: the marker—his custom-built and primary tool—moves exclusively in parallel trajectories. This seemingly simple rule fundamentally shapes the paintings, demanding a high degree of precision, coordination, and control while opening up an unexpectedly rich visual language. Within this strict framework, the works reveal an increasing complexity. Parallel movements accumulate into geometric configurations that appear to shift between two and three dimensions. Planes begin to fold, angles suggest volume, and linear structures give rise to figures that seem to hover between mathematical construction and optical perception. The geometry is never
