On now
- AKINCI is proud to present EXPRESS, a solo exhibition by Maria Roosen (1957). In her first exhibition at AKINCI, Roosen shows new work in which two movements clash. The title EXPRESS hints at a wordplay: the Dutch word for the conscious, purposeful and intentional ‘expres’ interacts with the English word ‘express’: what must come out, which can no longer be held back and expresses itself by any means.Description

- AKINCI is proud to announce the upcoming solo exhibition A Poem from the Volcano by Odonchimeg Daavadorj (1990). In this exhibition, Davaadorj dissolves the artificial separation between human and nature, drawing on ancient myths. In this process, the artist uses these myths to reimagine the human condition, searching for the landscapes within oneself. This is shown through her use of the volcano, a burning mountain embodied by the Greek god Hephaestus. The volcano is a paradox: a place of rebirth and catastrophe, it destroys and creates. The presence of female bodies, the body she knows best, are a canvas in which she explores this tension and tries to imagine dissolving this paradox.Description

- AKINCI is proud to present The Shadow of Care, a solo exhibition by Gluklya, unfolding from her long-term research in the Kyrgyz Republic since 2021. The exhibition examines care not as an unquestioned moral good, but as a contradictory force — one capable of protection, discipline, suffocation, and control. Gluklya’s engagement with the notion of care emerged through her encounters with women working in the textile and fashion industry in Bishkek, a major center for garment production for export, primarily to the Russian market. Listening to the stories of seamstresses, she began to trace how care operates within systems of production: as concern, dependency, obligation, and exhaustion.Description

- The exhibition revolves around five chapters demonstrating the current discourse of the term Care and its contemporary moral and artistic outcome. The chapters are; The Shadow of Care , The Exhausted Body of Care , The Politics of Overcare , The Sanatorium of Care and Manifesto of Negative Care . Below you can find some first words by Gluklya about the subject of the exhibition. “I have a lot of questions and problems with the subject of care. When I think about Care, an image appears: a plant named Avi that grows along the trunk of old trees. At first, it seems tender, protective, even beautiful – a gesture of support. But as it tightens its embrace, it starts to suffocate the very tree that allowed it to climb. This image, for me, embodies the negativity of Care – its shadow.”Description
