  • Search for “exuvia” online, and the screen fills up with insects. More specifically, insect husks. Their inhabitants are long gone. All that remains are abandoned remnants that still convey a lingering sense of vitality, although they now consist of nothing more than lifeless matter. In her solo exhibition Exuvie, Marie Schubert studies what is left behind and the husks that remain.

  • In his new body of work, the artist Ferdinand Dölberg addresses internal dialogue and the innermost thoughts we all have. His paintings formally recall cinematic techniques, and they are installed in ways that mirror the monadic nature of our consciousness. What if we could hear and see the innermost thoughts of others? The paintings and prints refine familiar motifs from Dölberg’s practice: communication, estrangement, work, and the ambivalence between joy and constraint that his characters experience within the systems he sketches for them. Dölberg undertakes an analysis of sociality and consciousness, while also pushing painting to its limits by staging it in the space. – Philipp Hindahl

  • Across Madness is a Shadow Chasing Freedom, Jones assembles a grammar of grief that is never solitary. Her mourning intertwines with that of her cohort, her community, her mother, and a broader diaspora subjected to overlapping losses. Each breath, gesture, dyed cloth, formed clay, or suspended bell, bears the imprint of attentive and repeated labour. Mourning becomes a form of making, and making a form of staying with the dead. In this space, the dead are neither abstracted nor sanctified; they remain present, breathing through the shifting seam of a quilt. Her work extends this companionship to the viewer: an invitation not to consume grief but to inhabit it.
