On now
- ICONOFLUX brings together works by Horia Bernea, Florin Mitroi, Ion Dumitriu, Mihai Sârbulescu, Alexandru Chira, Bogdan Vlăduță, Gili Mocanu, Anca Mureșan, Ciprian Mureșan, Șerban Savu, Diana Popuț, and Eva Chapkin. First presented this summer at the Cluj-Napoca Art Museum, as part of Praxis! Emergent Curator's Days, the exhibition has been reconfigured for the Arsmonitor space in Bucharest. The selection of works was rethought in relation to the gallery's architecture and dimensions, while the list of artists remained unchanged. ICONOFLUX stems from a series of inquiries into the way the iconic of a sacred nature circulates in contemporary Romanian art from the 1970s to the present. As a research-based curatorial project, the present exhibition is the first in a broader series, which does not aim to provide definitive answers and conclusions, but to make visible a wide spectrum of possible correspondences between generations, historical contexts, and different - sometimes divergent - artistic mediums. Looking from the present toward the past, the micro-selection of artists highlights multifaceted typologies of the sacred-profane antinomy. In this retrospective inquiry, the theme under reflection traces the way in which what appears sacred transgresses the boundaries of art history and local historical circumstances, while what appears profane often retains references to the sacred iconic. What was once an explicit symbol of the sacred may today be emptied of its original meaning, while other symbolic forms make indirect references to spirituality through technique, quotation, reference, or appropriation. ICONOFLUX traces precisely this flux of the iconic between the sacred and the profane, revealing the persistence of forms and formulas that transcend historical and generational circumstances.Description

Recent past exhibitions
- Arsmonitor Gallery is delighted to announce Painting Unbound, a new exhibition by Anca Mureșan, marking the first collaboration between the artist and the gallery. Bringing together a recent body of work, the exhibition reflects a significant moment in Anca Mureșan's practice and offers an insight into her sustained exploration of painting as an open, living process. Conceived around the idea of the open artwork, Painting Unbound approaches painting as something that exceeds the limits of the canvas. In Anca Mureșan's work, painting extends into space, gesture, material, and perception, unfolding as a form in continuous transformation. Rather than emerging as a closed or autonomous object, painting appears here as fluid, permeable, and alive - closely attuned to the rhythms of life and to the possibility of unrestricted expression. Her works articulate a visual language shaped by both precision and openness, intimacy and expansion, in which form is never fixed but always in the process of becoming. Through this exhibition, painting is understood not as a finished image, but as an open field of relations, responsive to change, experience, and organic evolution. Painting Unbound invites viewers to encounter a body of work in which the pictorial act remains in motion, crossing boundaries and resisting closure. Arsmonitor Gallery is especially pleased to inaugurate this first collaboration with Anca Mureșan through an exhibition that speaks with both sensorial subtlety and conceptual clarity. With Painting Unbound, the gallery continues its commitment to presenting contemporary artistic practices that engage the present with sensitivity, rigor, and poetic force.Description

- We are pleased to announce Gili Mocanu's new solo exhibition at Arsmonitor, titled As If. This marks the artist's third exhibition in collaboration with our gallery, following Don't Cry Anymore, Gili (2024), held at our Bucharest space, and Hill with Skull (2025), curated by Mihnea Mircan and organized by Arsmonitor in Timișoara at the ISHO Pavilion. The exhibition As If presents a series of new works in which the artist brings before the public his most recent painterly inquiries into the theme of light. As we have come to expect, Gili Mocanu's painting once again surprises by placing in radical dialogue a traditional theme-light being one of the oldest and most profound problems in the history of art-and a contemporary stance, in which the image itself is subjected to critical questioning.Description
