- Beauty and ugliness have always fascinated people, yet their meanings shift over time. Bellezza e Bruttezza explores how artists from Italy and Northern Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries depicted these extremes, from refined ideals to deliberate grotesques. A rare opportunity to see extraordinary works, some appearing in Belgium for the first and only time. The exhibition traces how the standards of beauty and ugliness evolved from the last quarter of the 15th century to the end of the 16th century—key transitional periods—by juxtaposing in a rich and compelling confrontation the ways in which these two subjects were interpreted by the greatest Italian artists and their counterparts from Northern Europe. Beauty became an increasingly important social concern at this time, as shown by the rising number of 16th-century publications offering “recipes for looking beautiful” and advice on cosmetics and care. Meanwhile, ugliness also grew in prominence in art, appearing in a widening range of forms throughout the same period. - Aleksandra Kasuba (1923–2019) imagined alternative ways of living through her practice on the threshold of design, architecture and experimental art. Fleeing Lithuania after World War II, she emigrated to the US, settling in New York and later New Mexico. The exhibition spans six decades of work, from early paintings and mosaics to later sculptures and architectural designs, inspired by nature and a search for deeper connections between humanity and the natural world.Description

When we imagine paradise, fruit fills it, its colour, its sweetness, its abundance. But paradise has a price. At the heart of the exhibition lies a deceptively simple question: what do we see when we look at fruit, and who decides? Few objects carry such cultural weight. - In the summer of 2026, Colombian artist Delcy Morelos creates a new monumental installation for Bozar’s Horta Hall. For this piece, Morelos draws on South American ancestral building techniques and European vernacular architecture. Using local, bio-sourced materials such as earth, clay, and fibres, her sensory works highlight the fundamental role of indigenous knowledge in maintaining both an ecological and spiritual balance.Description

- After exploring love in 2024, physical beauty is the second thematic exhibition at Bozar focusing on what motivates us as humans. Through the lens of photography and video, made from the 1960s to today, this exhibition explores how artists depict and challenge established norms of who is considered beautiful. Unveiling the pressures and excess of what it means to be beautiful today, the works in this exhibition offer a diverse range of propositions, from the critical to the emancipatory. Bozar Arcade, the space dedicated to interactive digital artworks and video games in Bozar, will be integrated into the exhibition. - For the April Bozar all over the Palace, Bozar hands the reins to Cabaret Les Moches. Drawing inspiration from the major exhibition Picture Perfect, Les Moches and their troupe of performers take on beauty norms head‑on. Created especially for Bozar, ten unique cabaret acts unfold, imagined by artists from the worlds of dance, circus and performance. The staircases of the Horta Hall become the stage for this multifaceted cabaret. Bozar’s history reminds us of the vital role cabaret plays in society: through freedom of form, a critical stance towards norms and the creation of an open, non‑judgemental space. Les Moches embrace this tradition with flamboyant, poetic and outspoken performances. As with every nocturne, a DJ set in the Horta Hall accompanies the evening.Description

- For each Bozar all over the Palace, Bozar stays open later. On March 26, visitors are invited to discover the Picture Perfect exhibition, which challenges stereotypes of beauty and perspectives on what defines us as beautiful, through a selection of photographs and videos. The exhibition provides a context for performances by Lia Haraki and Panos Malactos, adapted especially for Bozar. In a guided, collective meditation, Haraki explores the mature female body through personal experiences and those of sacred women. By adapting his solo Sadboi for Bozar, Malactos confronts the audience’s gaze in a roaming performance, where body worship collides with the virtual world of social media and the internet. The evening continues with a DJ set in the Horta Hall and a selection of short films screened in The 23.Description
