  • Koen Doodeman creates textile works based on photographs that, from a distance, can appear like paintings. Moving between photography, painting and textile, his works occupy an in-between space: two-dimensional image and three-dimensional object, representation and abstraction. Plants, sunsets and recognisable fragments are woven together with abstract patterns, allowing images to emerge and dissolve across the surface. Rather than choosing between painting and textile, Doodeman searches for the point where one becomes the other. amended okono extends this idea into language itself: something recognisable gives way to something undefined, while both remain part of the same composition. amended okono is an anagram of Koen Doodeman’s name. While amended carries a clear meaning, okono is formed from the remaining letters and means nothing. The title moves between meaning and non-meaning, figuration and abstraction, a tension that lies at the heart of Doodeman’s practice. Koen Doodeman (1987, NL) received the Royal Award for Modern Painting in 2014 and graduated from the Rijksakademie in 2016. His work is held in numerous public and private collections.

  • Gerhard Hofland is pleased to present a duo exhibition featuring recent paintings by Jacqueline Peeters and sculptures by Maria Roosen. Both artists share an interest in transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary, and the extraordinary into the ordinary. Rather than being strictly thematic, the exhibition allows unexpected and compelling combinations to emerge from contrasts and oppositions. The strength of the works lies in their persistent objecthood: they originate from everyday objects, transform into art, yet continue to assert their tangible presence as things.
