GALLERIA EUGENIA DELFINI - Rome
- Galleria Eugenia Delfini is excited to begin its fourth exhibition season by presenting The unfolding of itself, Lorenzo Modica’s first solo show at the gallery. The exhibition will be introduced by a conversation with the artist Luca Bertolo and will be the occasion to present Modica's latest cycle of oil and acrylic works together with a series of new works on nylon. Modica’s pictorial research can be contextualized in what art critic Raphael Rubinstein has defined as 'provisional painting' in relation to artists such as Richard Tuttle, Mary Heilmann and Raoul De Keyser, who, according to Rubinstein, create 'works that seem casual, hasty, provisional, unfinished or self-cancelling' and who 'deliberately move away from strong painting for something that seems constantly to risk failure or inconsequence'. Modica is interested in exploring the language of painting itself and in the way images are generated and circulate from one dimension to another. His works investigate the continuous movement of affirmation and negation of the figure, the surface as a space for the spontaneous emergence of figuration and abstraction. His practice is characterized by an unplanned process that encompasses different approaches, materials and techniques to sometimes arrive at a figure or a form that can be traced back to reality as an indication of a possibility.Beschrijving
